West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, during her transit at Dubai Airport, interacted with a Gujarati family traveling to Europe for a wedding. Engaging in a brief conversation, she inquired about their wedding traditions and specifically asked about the Mehendi ceremony. Banerjee then requested the young women in the family to showcase a glimpse of their Mehendi dance, to which they agreed. The two women performed at the airport, with onlookers witnessing the spontaneous cultural exchange.
Banerjee was en route to London for a scheduled seven-day visit. She had initially planned to depart on March 22, but due to a fire-induced power outage at Heathrow Airport, her flight was rescheduled. She eventually left Kolkata on March 23 at around 8 PM, reaching Dubai before continuing her journey to London. According to reports, her flight from Dubai departed at 4:48 AM IST on March 24, with arrival expected at Heathrow Airport by noon IST.
Her visit to London includes a series of meetings and engagements. Officials have stated that the trip aims to strengthen economic and cultural ties while promoting investment opportunities for West Bengal. The visit comes amid ongoing discussions about global partnerships, with a focus on expanding Bengal’s international outreach.
